Recent Beauty Favorites

Now, I have to admit I have been horrible at doing favorites posts. So, bad that my last post was in January! So, I have a huge overflow of favorite beauty products that I went to look at when I was deciding what to put in my May favorites post. And I was really trying to narrow it down but there were just too many things I truly love (that I needed to talk about) so here’s a cumulative beauty favorites post for over the past few months.

(Dreaming of You- purple tube, Mcizzle- Sparkly tube)

First off, I have my go to lip combo of Mcizzle (light peachy nude) lipstick from the Mariah Carey Mac collection and the shade Dreaming of you (dark red) from the Selena Mac collection. These were both limited edition lipsticks that were released during this past winter and I found that I just wasn’t getting enough use out of them. I really like to use my makeup and not just collect it, so when I buy limited edition products I really want to make sure I use them. So, I started to mix the two by applying Mcizzle (a cremesheen finish) all over my lips as a moisturizing layer and a wash of a light nude. Then I use Dreaming of you (a matte finish) to draw lines of the color on my lips and use my finger to blend them together so I get a rose stained look. It’s perfectly messy and has become a staple lip look for me, so much so that when I thought I lost Dreaming of You I searched all over my house (freaking out) until I was able to find it.

I also have another lip favorite which is a crème liquid lipstick by Kylie Cosmetics in the shade Kiki. This is my favorite shade of the four from the KKW collection (although I also do like the shade Kimmie a lot too) and it has been one of my favorite lip products recently as well. I wrote a full review on the Kim Kardashian West and Kylie Cosmetics collection so I will link that below so you can read more about the products if you would like.

I’ve been really obsessed with Wet N Wild recently. And not like I was when I was obsessed with their sparkly “disco” looking nail polish in middle school. These products are actually amazing! Wet N Wild has really stepped it up and as one of the most affordable brands at the drugstore and they are forcing other drugstore brands (and high-end ones) to step up to the plate. I picked up four of the Mega Glow sticks (which are blushes, bronzers/ contours, concealer highlighters, and highlighters) and I have been loving Floral Majority (a rosy cream blush) and Oaks On You (cream bronzer/ contour for fair skin). There are a lot of different shades but overall the formula of all the blushes, bronzer, and highlight I have tried have been very bendable, creamy, and long lasting. I am also not a huge cream product girl (or I wasn’t before these) as they seemed time consuming and difficult, but these are so user friendly. Also with a price tag of $4 each and a huge variation of colors for each of the types of Mega glow sticks they are such an amazing product.

I have recently been trying to work on my eyebrows. I have pretty large brows that are pretty crazy, and filling them in with a brow pomade is just too much for me. I like them to look nice and natural and powder is perfect for this. So, I went to the company that pretty much owns eyebrows in the beauty world, Anastasia Beverly Hills, and picked up the Brow Powder Duo in the shade medium brown. I love this as with the two shades you have a lot of variety in wether you want a light brow or a very defined brow. I also use it with another product; the Anastasia Beverly Hills brush #12. It has a brow brush on one side and a spoolie on the other so it is a one and done eyebrow tool.

About two months ago I went on a weekend trip to Seattle and Portland and I wanted to pack lightly. So, I reached for an old favorite, my Nars Orgasm blush and Laguna duo in the travel size. I bought this product last year and got the travel size at $24 dollars because I wasn’t sure if I would like any of the products and didn’t want to pay the full-size price. I love Laguna, and had stopped using it until I rediscovered it on that trip. It is such a flattering blush that can work as a contour shade if needed so easily. I am not head over heels about the orgasm blush, but when I get tanner I expect to use it more. It is the perfect small but very good quality face duo.

This is an old fave as well which I never talked about until now- the Coty Air Spun Loose Face Powder. This is my alternative to buying the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (which again I just can’t bring myself to buy when this is such an amazing loose face powder). This is transparent and does not give any flashback. It works really well for baking and when dusted all over the face works miracles in keeping my makeup on and the oil away. This works so well that it is the difference between my face staying just as I have done it or having it fade/melt away.

shades swatched from top to bottom: Puree, Summer Yum, Bellini, Bless Her Heart

This is another product I have done a review on so I’m not going to talk about it too much. It was also like the Sephora equivalent to a golden ticket in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, as no one could get their hands on it when it first launched. Have a guess? Too Faced Sweet peach palette? Of course! I adore this and while I have heard all the reviews about how this palette isn’t worth the hype, I honestly think it is. The shade range is perfect for me as it has warm neutrals for everyday with some awesome pops of color that I can use and still create something wearable. There is also enough variety and depth in the colors to do something dramatic or more “glam” with ease. The packaging with Too Faced products is always amazing, and this product does not disappoint.

So, I have also been loving the Wet N Wild Coverall Primer. I was using the Too Faced Hangover RX primer and I loved it, but when it came time to repurchasing it for $34 I thought about the $4 Wet N Wild primer I saw at Walgreens and picked it up instead. I love it! It isn’t as moisturizing as the Too Faced one but as for it priming comparability: it really does the job. I feel like it may even minimize my pores more and keeps my makeup lasting as long as the Too Faced one. So, I would definitely say if your skin is under control and you use a moisturizer (or are not looking for extra moisture) try this out primer out.

I also wanted to mention my all time favorite mascara. I have to admit, I do love a good Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, but I feel like paying a high end price for a mascara just doesn’t make sense. As the drugstore has some really amazing options. So I went looking for a dupe for the Too Faced mascara and I heard about the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara. It gives me everything I want; intense lasting color, lengthening, and extreme volume! My lashes look completely different after a coat of this and if needed it can be built up so your lashes can take more of a dramatic turn. I think this must be my fifth or sixth tube of this (which is insane as I was never this faithful to a mascara before this one)!
